"We do not provide drinking water testing for communities as alleged in recent handouts in NC and are not associated with the company collecting water samples. Contact your water provider to verify test reports and beware of scams trying to sell water filtration systems using inaccurate testing methods."

Air Testing Projects
Cyanide Testing for NASA Research Facility
RTP Labs' analyzed samples collected to confirm the absence of cyanide particulate residues in NASA's Research Facility engine testing program.
Product Testing for VOCs, Ozone and Particulates
.We have conducted numerous bench scale tests for clients interested in determining their product VOC emissions at various temperature conditions.  Solids, liquids, and waste products have been tested.  This information can be used to design air pollution control equipment capabilities, determine if hazardous VOCs are present, or to evaluate exposures of chemicals to humans in indoor and ambient environments.  Examples of material types: foam (new & old); PVC material; elastic bands; insulation; process liquids; wastewater; paper; mosquito attractants (CO2 &  Octenol).

Testing of home air cleaning devices for ozone emissions by UL 867 test method was performed.  We have also tested these devices in our sealed environmental chamber to evaluate removal efficiencies of tobacco smoke, pollen, sulfur odors, and microorganisms.

World Trade Center Area & US Postal Service Facility Air Monitoring
RTP Labs' analyzed samples collected in Summa canisters and sorbent tubes at schools and office buildings in the WTC  area to determine levels of VOCs for building re-openings. We also have tested a USPS facility for VOCs possibly related to new irradiation procedures. Test Methods TO-14A and TO-17  GC/MS were used.
Odor Complaints and Microbial VOC Air Monitoring
Samples collected in Summa canisters and sorbent tubes at schools and office buildings in the WTC area were analyzed to determine levels of VOCs for building re-openings. We also have tested a USPS facility for VOCs possibly related to new irradiation procedures. Test Methods TO-14A and TO-17  GC/MS were used.
Superfund Hazardous Waste Site Air Monitoring
We have several ongoing and new projects that use Summa canisters and Tedlar bags to collect samples at waste sites.  Pollutant sources and exhaust vents are tested to determine  ppmv and ppbv levels of pollutants. Test Methods TO-14A; TO-15  GC/MS; ASTM D-1945 GC/FID and GC/TCD are used.
Residential Indoor Air Quality
  • Over 50 air samples were collected in Tedlar bags from residences to determine potential VOCs impact and exposures from contaminated groundwater.  Co-located samples were compared to another lab results that showed no statistically significant differences at 1-10 ppbv  for BTEX compounds even over a 3-week holding time.
  • 52 Summa canister samples collected at 16 residences over a 3 day period.  Analysis was by EPA Method TO-14A GC/MS with a 3 day turnaround time and electronic deliverable in MS Excel format and e-mailed to client.

Several projects were in support of insurance claims by examining particles in indoor air filters and surface swipes to determine source, identity and size of pollutant.

Medical Facilities Gas Testing
Hospital and nursing home testing of in-house gas systems for contamination.  Analysis performed for breathing quality air, oxygen, N2O for oil and cleaning solvent contaminant residues.  Our testing revealed problems with cross contamination of operating room anesthetics, hydrocarbon oils, and trichloroethylene solvent.
